DAY-CARE CENTRE
The Day Care Centre “SYZOI” has been designed and organized specifically for people with visual disorders (partial or total blindness) and additional disabilities – mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, neurometabolic syndromes, etc. The combination of each individual’s disabilities varies, making this group completely heterogeneous with peculiar developmental needs.
Operated in accordance with European standards, the “SYZOI” Centre stands as the sole facility in Northern Greece, offering specialized educational and therapeutic interventions for people with visual disorders and additional disabilities, aiming through its educational and therapeutic programmes to achieve the maximum potential of each beneficiary individual.
Τoddlers (from 4 to 7 years old), children and young people (from 7 years old) participate daily to the Syzoi centre and attend individual and group programmes designed according to the needs of each beneficiary, aiming through individualisation and with a holistic approach to the development of their functionality in all areas.
The design of the programmes is implemented by the interdisciplinary team consisting of:
- Child psychiatrist
- Psychologist
- Social Worker
- Special Education Teacher
- Therapists
- Teacher of Special Physical Education
For planning and implementating of the programmes, the team is supported by the Programme Coordination Manager, a Nurse, Trainers – Caregivers, Drivers and School Bus chaperones.
The programmes include the following activities:
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Logotherapeutic management of feeding and swallowing disorders
- Music therapy
- Snoezelen therapy
- S.I. Sensory Integration Program
- Special Physical Education
- Visual education programme for people with impaired vision
- Programmes for self-care, mobility
- Orientation and daily living skills
- Individual & Group Psychotherapy
- Psycho-emotional support for beneficiaries and families
- Creative employment activities
- Educational activities in an external environment – (Cultural, Recreational, Sports, Social Activities)
- Transport to and from the Centre in specially designed vehicles
In addition, the Centre collaborates with external entities to offer:
- Therapeutic riding
- Therapeutic swimming
- Social interaction
- Integration programme with typically developing peers
- Participation in a camping program
